Dutch Design Week

I had a wonderful afternoon at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven today! Next to beautiful design I really love the industrial environment of the area Strijp.

A number of highlights:

Henry Baumann - Objects of re-used fruit boxes

Wies Preyde - 'Against the grain' Textile 

Piet Hein Eek - Furniture of re-used wood

Studio Drift - 'Shylight', a moving Drift project

Unfold - 'Stratigraphic Porcelain' made with a 3D printer for porcelain

And bought my own Piet Hein Eek of course :) Even 'The girl with the pearl' of Vermeer is shown!

House of Rym – Porselein, Textiel en Olijfhout

House of Rym is ontstaan vanuit een liefdesrelatie.
Liefde tussen traditioneel handwerk en hedendaags design.
Tussen Tunesie en Zweden.
Tussen duurzame materialen en intrigerende esthetiek.

Tunesisch ambacht en hedendaags Scandinavisch design

Oprichters Rym Tounsi en Zied Youssed delen hun passie voor cultureel erfgoed.
En de overtuiging dat design liefhebbers van over de hele wereld moeten kunnen genieten van een moderne benadering van traditionele producten.
Voor de perfecte match werkten zij samen met de getalenteerde Zweedse ontwerpsters
Anna Backlund en Elisabeth Dunker. Het resultaat van deze bijzondere samenwerking is House of Rym – de plek waar Tunesisch ambacht en hedendaags Scandinavisch design hals over kop verliefd werden.

Duurzaamheid is een belangrijk motto voor House of Rym, o.a: Alle productie (veelal handwerk) vindt plaats in Tunesië op eerlijke wijze in weverijen en werkplaatsen met gebruik van pure, natuurlijke grondstoffen. Het olijfhout is afkomstig van duurzaam gecertificeerde olijfbomen. Kussens en poef zijn gemaakt van hergebruikte kelims. Het porselein wordt verpakt in een verpakking van gerecycled karton.
